Farm Show Conducts Draft Horse Driving Competition
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
Exhibitors from across the
commonwealth harnessed their
horses Sunday for the draft horse
driving competition at the 84th
Pennsylvania State Farm Show.
In the first set of driving class
es, exhibitors could enter a single
draft horse hitched to a cart hi the
single horse hitched class (gentle
men to drive), the cart and horse
entered by Alfred and Donna
Rovenolt of Turbotvillc, North
umberland County, took first
place.
In the single horse hitched
(ladies to drive) class, Alice Mat
son of Wyalusing, Bradford
County, won the blue ribbon. The
horse and young driver entered by
Janice Ruhl of Manheim, Lancas
ter County, took first place in the

Four farms entered the six
horse hitch contest with the wag
on and hitch owned by Alfred and
Donna Rovenolt taking first place.
The Rovenolts’ entries also won
the four-horse and team hitch
classes.
In the unicam hitch class, three
horses—a pair hitched directly in
front of the wagon and a third
horse harnessed in front of them
pull a vehicle. The unicorn
hitch entered by Roger and Linda
Thoms of Aaronsburg, Chester
County, won the class. In the team
