started the week fully steady on Monday
but by Tuesday's good offering prices
turned weak to 50 lower Holstein
steers sold near steady m a light test
Slaughter cow prices were weak to 1 00
lower than Thursday, after Monday's
light test showed a definite higher
undertone Slaughter bulls were mostly

CATTLE Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers sold steady to SO higher
to end the week firm to 1.00 higher. The
offering was fairly plain m quality,
especially early m die sale, and prices
improved as buyers tried to pick through
the mixed supply to fill orders A light test
of Holstein steers sold fully steady and
slaughter heifers were not well tested.
Slaughter cows soldmostly steady with
only minimal signs of weakness leading
up to the hohdayweekend. Slaughter bulls
were active and 50-1 50 higher Supply
included 35 percent slaughter steers and
45 percent slaughter cows.

CALVES- Compared to Monday's
auction, the vealer market continues active
and prices were firm to 800 higher. A
light test of slaughter calves sold 7 00-
15.00 higher. The arrival of Y2K had no
effect on the demand for Holstein bull
calves bound for special-fed veal bams
Prices were mostly 10.00 higher in active
hading. Holstein heifers were also popular
with buyers and sold steady to 15.00
higher. Supply included 326 head in the
State graded sale and 90 percent of the
supply returned to feed.
