Livestock Champions Sold
At Fulton Junior Sale
MCCONNELLSBURG
(Fulton Co ) Both junior
exhibitors and charitable pro
grams benefitted at the Fulton
County livestock sale conducted
late August at the county’s fair
grounds
Andy Meyer, exhibitor of the
grand champion market hog,
elected to donate half of his sale
earnings to the Make-A-Wish
program Mellott’s Custom
Butchering supported the 11-
year-old by running the 246-
pound Yorkshire-crossbred to a
final $3 30 per pound, then
turned the pig into a celebratory
roast where additional funds
were generated for the program
Meyer, son of Ray and Ann
Meyer, Warfordsburg, was
stricken with childhood
leukemia when he was five
years old During his lengthy
treatment program, the Make-
A-Wish program provided him
with a backyard swimming pool
‘lt was Andy’s idea to donate
half of his pig earnings back to
the program,” said Ann Meyer
Additional donations from
friends, family, and the pig roast
took donations from the hog
champion to Make-A-Wish to
more than $BOO The winning
pig had been purchased as a
feeder from Wilson's Yorkshires
of York County
Reserve grand champion hog
was exhibited by Lance Mellott,
Harnsonville The 254-pound
pig sold for $2 10 per pound to
Truax Country Side Meats
A club hog, which opened the
annual sale, sold and then resold
several times to benefit the
scholarship fund First winning
bid was $3 50 per pound for the
260-pounder and was made by
First National Bank of
McConnellsburg The donor pig
was then returned and resold on
a $1 60 per pound bid from
Thomas Chevrolet/Oldsmobile,
for a $1 40 per pound bid to
Prestige Meats, and a third time
to McGuire Builders, Inc on a
$l.lO per pound bid
Champion lightweight hog
was exhibited by Danielle
McClain, McConnellsburg. The
230-pound winner sold to
Thomas Chevrolet/Oldsmobile
on a final bid of $3 60 per pound.
Jack Clark 11, Hustontown,
exhibited the 248-pound reserve
champion heavyweight. It sold
for $1.70 per pound to Richards
Auto Sales, Inc
Reserve champion mid
dleweight, at 246-pounds, was
shown by Norman Mellott,
McConnelsburg. Area represen
tative Dick Hess was the win
ning bidder, at $1.40 per pound.
Bradley Gordon took reserve
champion lightweight honors
with his 212-pound pig, which
sold for $l.BO per pound to
Tollgate Auto Parts.
First in the lamb auction
lineup was' Lance Mellott,
Harnsonvile, with his 114-
pound grand champion crosbred.
Representative Dick Hess
bought the champion on a $3.70
per pound bid. The lamb was
then resold to Thomas
Chevrolet, at $1.50 per pound, to
benefit the building fund. A
third selling of the champion
went on a $1.30 per pound bid,
purchased by Truax Country
side meats to benefit the schol
arship fund.
In the reserve championship
lamb spot was Brandon Gordon,
McConnelsburg His 110-pound
Suffolk brought a winning bid of
$2 80 per pound from Richards
Auto Sales, Inc , then sold again
to Glenn Bros for $l4O per
pound
Elbe Ramsey’s champion
lightweight, a 104-pound
Suffolk, sold to Pepple’s Auction
Barn on a $1 20 per pound bid A
second selling of the
Harnsonville 4-Her’s winner
benefitted the scholarship fund
and sold to Greencastle
Livestock on a $l.lO per pound
bid
Reserve champion heavy
weight, a 128-pound Shropshire
exhibited bv Molly Schooley,

Steak and Sea House, bidding
$1 70 per pound
Reserve champion mid
dleweight was exhibited by
Kelly Cooper, Waterfall The
108-pound Suffolk crossbred
went to bidders Curtis and
Sandy Raker for $2.60 per
pound.
McConnellsburg 4-Her
Bradley Gordon exhibited the
reserve champion lightweight, a
106-pound Suffolk, which sold to
Ritchey's Electric Service on a
$1 50 per pound bid
Grand champion market

Mcconnellsburg. Kuhn’s 1,264-
pound Angus crossbred opened

Beaver Fair Conducts
Youth Livestock Sale
BEAVER (Beaver Co.) The
Beaver Community Fair Youth
Livestock Sale was conducted
late Sept. 23.
The grand champion meat
pen of rabbits (two animals) was
shown by Larissa Baney. The
buyer was Brian and Steve Shea
Livestock Hauling of Mt.
Pleasant Mills. The price paid
was $l7O.
Reserve champion meat pen,
shown by Rebecca Holler, was
sold to Flowers Farm Machinery,
Mt. Pleasant Mills, for $l5O. A
total of 7 meat pens sold at an
average of $128.57.
The grand champion single
fryer rabbit, shown by Larissa
Baney, was sold to Larry Snook’s
Babbitry, Selinsgrove, for $B5.
Orvis Long Painting and
Wallpapering, Selinsgrove, pur
chased Allana Brandt’s reserve
champion. The price paid was
$75. $74.14 was the average
$2 50 per pound from Hoss's
Steak and Sea House
Reserve champion was
Norman Mellott’s 1,292 pound
crossbred Buyer of the
McConnellsburg’s 4-Her’s run
ner up winner was Gateway
Travel Plaza on a final bid of
$2.10 per pound
Topping the heavyweights
was Jamie Morton’s crossbred,
crossing the scale at 1,314
pounds. Fred Waite Contractor
bought the Big Cove Tannery
exhibitor’s weight champion on
a $1.20 per pound bid.
Champion lightweight was
exhibited by Julie Kuhn,
McConnellsburg The Angus
cross, at 1,122 pounds, was pur
chased by Mrs Pierce Miller for
$1.15 per pound.
Tai Fix, Waterfall, had the
reserve champion heavyweight
Hustontown Volunteer Fire
Company was the final bidder,
at $1 20 per pound on the 1,282
pound reserve winner.
Hagerstown Speedway was
the winning bidder on the
reserve lightweight champion,
exhibited by Joshua Seville,
McConnellsburg The 1,134-
pound steer sold on a $ll5 per
pound bid
A total of 28 steers went
through the junior sale, generat
ing sales of $39,665 21
Exhibitors sold a total of 45 pigs
with a gross revenue of
$18,650 60. The lamb portion of
the sale generated $5,195.60
from a total of 27 head.

M.L. Bowersox Livestock of
Winfield purchased Travis
Moyer’s grand champion market
lamb. The final bid was $5OO.
Hannah Etzler sold her reserve
champion market lamb to Becky
Kerstetter’s Nationwide
Insurance, Port Royal and
Beaver Springs for $3OO. A total
of 25 lambs sold averaged $219.
Wiand Enterprises, Mifflinburg,
purchased the grand champion
market hog for $BOO. The cham
pion was shown by Jodi
Fetterolf. Hannah Etzler
received $7OO from Rayauda’s
Restaurant for her reserve
champion. Fifty-two hogs aver
aged $262.02.
Scott Reigle sold his grand
champion market steer to Hoss’s
Steak and Sea House for $1,600.
Hoss’s also purchased Lance
Herman’s reserve champion for
$1,350. They averaged $960.42.
