Daily National Drain Market Summary
USDA’s crop production report,
released this morning was expected to
boost grain and soybean bids, but didn’t
Some profit taking in com pits and slow
export sales this week pressured bids low
er. Wheat 4 to 7 cents lower. Com 3 to 8
cents lower. Sorghum 1 to 2 cents lower.
Soybeans II to IS cents lower. USDA
increased their estimate for World wheat
production by mote than 2SS million
bushels and wheat bids fell moderately
lower. World ending stocks were up from
128.12 million metric tons to 130/46 mmt
Declines were limited, however, on sub
stantial wheat purchases overnight by
Egypt and the Philippines. Sharp lasses in
com pits, despite lower production figures
compared to a year ago. However, if their
figures are realized, this would be the third
largest production and second highest yield
on record. Com pro- ducticn was forecast
at 9.54 billion bushels, up I percent from
October and 2 percent lower than 1998.
The expected yield is at 134.5 bushels per
acre, up 0.1 bushels from 1998. Soybean
bids also fell sharply lower, despite the
