Receives EPA Grant
BRATTLEBORO, Vt.
Working in partnership with the
Dairy Quality Assurance Center,
Inc., and with funding support
from the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), the
Holstein Foundation will devel
op and publish environmental
education materials to help edu
cate dairy producers about
potential sources of pollution
within their dairy operations
and encourage action to prevent
and/or reduce pollution from the
farm.
The effect of the dairy opera
tion on the environment is an
issue many dairy farmers are
addressing in their operations.
America’s farmers have been
stewards of the land for genera
tions. The Holstein Foundation
and the Dairy Quality
Assurance Center initiated the
project to develop education
materials to serve as a resource
for dairy farmers needing infor
mation on environmental issues.
By having educational resources
available, the dairy industry will
be better-positioned to continue
its legacy of land stewardship.
USDA and EPA mandates,
such as the “Unified National
Strategy for Animal Feeding
Operations” are enacting addi
tional state environmental stan-

role is an educational one to pro
mote the opportunities provided
by the voluntary Environmental
Stewardship Program to a wide
audience of dairy producers,
