Compared to last week: Feeder steers
and all calves steady. Feeder heifers
1.00- lower. Demand moderate at best
as some feedtots are full or near capacity.
Rain needed in most areas of the state to
bring wheat pastures along. Early turnout
prospects bleak at the moment Calves over
5 wt dependent on feedlol demand which is
decent given the low cost of gains and rea
sonable hedging prospects. Yearling qual
ity plain to average. Quality of calves aver
age to attractive. Feeders in slightly thin to
medium flesh; calves in medium to fleshy
condition with modest showing of thin
calves. Weigh-ups average to full. Slaugh
ter cows JO-1.00 lower. Slaughter bulls
1.00- lower. Packer demand moderate
at best Southern buyers showing very little
interest as the culling process is in full
swing in the south. Demand continues
good for replacement and feeder cows.
Total of 915 cows and bulls sold with 45
percent to packets. Receipts this week
11,700; last week 9.808; last year 9,047.
Supply consisted of 47 percent yearlings
and calves over 600 lbs; 45 percent calves
under 600 lbs; 8 percent cows and bulls.
Heifers comprised 38 percent of feeder and
calf supply.
