Tioga County’s first 4-H goat show was a big hit at the Tioga County Fair. Despite the damp, gray weather, the bleachers were full of interested spectators. Fourteen 4-H members from Tioga county competed in a wide range of classes with their goats. The grand champion showman award went to Rachel Cochran of Westfield. She received a tro phy donated by Glenview Industries of Canton and a $5O check from Autumn Mist Goat Farm, Wellsboro. Grand champion overall breeds dairy doe trophy was donated by Cynthia Hawk and was awarded to Kate Lynn Johnson of Wellsboro, with her Nubian doe. Rachael Cochran, Westfield, received reserve champion with her Alpine doel ing. Tioga County has gone beyond the more familiar dairy goat show, and includes a wide variety of goat classes besides in their program. The grand cham pion market goat trophy donat ed by Ruff Acres of Erin N. Y. was awarded to Angie Schreck, Mansfield. Citizens and Northern Bank purchased Angie’s market wether. Reserve champion market goat, owned by Joseph Sepiol of Wellsboro, was purchased by Rockwell’s feed store of Wellsboro. The top-selling mar ket goat was purchased by Citizens and Northern Bank for $4.75 per pound and was owned by Allison Gorenflo of Lawrenceville. Michael Grand, Wellsboro, donated the grand champion banner and the reserve GC banner was'donated by Family Hair Styling, Wellsboro. The trophy was donat ed by Ruff Acres, Erin, N.Y. In the 4-H miniature goat classes, Kyle VanDusen of Tioga was awarded a champion trophy from the Osceola Big M. The 4-H members also trained some of their goats to pack and or pull. In die pack goat competition, Jeb Weaver received a trophy with his goat, Maude. Carquest of Wellsboro donated the trophy. In the goat cart, level 1, Cassandra Banik of Wellsboro, placed top in her class with her goat Sammy. Cassandra received a trophy donated by Carquest of Wellsboro. The 3rd annual open goat show was held Aug. 10 at the STACO FEEDERS ■; t'** Tioga County Fair. Timothy Grube and his wifi Roxanne of Elizabethtowr judged the show. More than 66 goats from 21 exhibitors were entered in the show. The county’s first 4-H goal show was held in coqjunctior with the open goat show. The show has several divisions fron the more familiar dairy divisior to market, meat breeding stock miniature, hair productdon,cart pack, and just for fun divisior classes.
