Sale Grosses $176,996 HONESDALE (Wayne Co.) Outdoing itself this year in dollars, number of animals sold, and in community spirit, the Wayne County Junior Livestock Sale sold 343 market animals in nearly se ven hours of auctioning starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 here at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Area businesses, parents, and friends of 4-H purchased market hogs, lambs, and steers for a total sale figure of $176,9%. Repeating as volume buyer for the fourth year in a row was Way mart Milling Company, followed closely by Reining Forest Prod ucts of Beach Lake. The sale began with the award ing of three scholarships to out standing participants in the live stock program who will be enter ing or continuing their education Junior Livestock in the Call. Receiving scholarships were Bridget O’Neill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben O’Neill, Plea sant Mount Bridget will enter Marywood University for the fall term. Kathleen Weaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weaver, Pleasant Mount was the recipient of another scholarship. She will matriculate at College Miseri cordia. Also, Daniel Nebzydoski, son of Dr. and Mrs. Henry Nebzy doski of Pleasant Mount received a scholarship from the livestock fund. Dan will be a sophomore at the University of Scranton this fall. The first animal offered for sale was the 256-pound grand champ ion market hog raised by Jeremy O’Neill of the Pleasant Mount Go- Getters. This animal was putchas- Jeremy O’Neill 10 per pound. ed by the Wayne Bank for a record price of $2,944. The reserve grand champion market hog was raised by Ryan Keyes, also of the Pleasant Mount Go-Getters 4-H Club. Marshall Machinery, Beach Lake, success fully bid this animal to $1,870.50. Hesten Grossman, Honesdale, sold his 114-pound grand champ ion market lamb to Honesdale Na tional Bank for $1,111.50. The reserve grand champion market lamb was raised by Tif fany Schweighofer of Honesdale. Dr. Henry and Jean Nebzydosld of Pleasant Mount purchased this lamb for $768. Julie Giver’s 1,215-pound grand champion market steer was bought by Reining Forest Prod ucts of Beach Lake for $3,037.50. Nick Nebzydoski of Pleasant Mount raised the reserve grand champion market steer which was sold for $1,955.25 to Waymart Milling Company. Several animals were sold by 4-H’crs or donated for resale by individuals and businesses to benefit various individuals or funds. The Livestock Scholarship Fund increased substantially from resale of animals. Rob Thorpe of Waymart Mill ing Company received donations from 4-H members to help defray medical expenses following a summer fanning accident Return ing the price of one animal for Thorpe were Matt Hauenstein, Cameron Burleigh, Peter Nebzy dosld, Nick Nebzydoski, Andrew Nebzydosld, Jeremy O’Neill, and Jennifer Eroh. Keating’s Heavens Gate Farm, Dave’s Super Duper ' Markets. Art Noble, Community Bank and Trust, William Lopatof sky, William Grunsld, and John Lillie also resold one animal for Thorpe. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 18, 1999-A25 Grand champion market lamb was raised by Landen Grossman and purchased by Honesdale Natlnal Bank for $9.75 per pound. Reserve grand champion market steer was raised by Nick Nebzydoskl and purchased by Waymart Milling Com pany for $1.65 per pound.
