Tmcldot buying activity was mixed with
dealers remaining cautious as they fill their
needs. Offerings of breast items were
sharply discounted in an effort to stimulate
interest, other items varied in both availa
bility and price from plant to plant as well
as from location. Retail and distributive
movement was generally of a light and
spotty nature. The market tone was weak
on breast items, cautiously steady on the
balance.

Whole products ranged unchanged to
higher, whites and salted yolks mosltly
unchanged and sugared yolks moslty
unchanged to slightly higher when com
pared to a week earlier. Demand was slow
with not much trading beyond tegular con
tracts. Liquid and frozen eggs (ingredients
included) processed under federal inspec
tion in the Eastern region for the week
ending August 28. 1999 were 10% less
than last week, and 3 % less than the same
week last year. Shell egg supplies were
generally sufficient from tegular aippliets.

GLANCE
In New England, prices were higher on
the medium and larger sizes, however, in
the Southern area, prices were unchanged
to lower on extra large and large eggs. The
market tone was cautiously steady on the
larger sizes, generally steady on mediums.
Demand was mixed, fair to good; although
mostly moderate, with best movement cen
tering around retail features. Supplies of
the larger eggs were at least adequate to
fully adequate, and mediums were usually
adequate to instances barely adequate. On
the West Coast, inventories were generally
ample. Breaking stock supplies were
adequate from regular sources, and
demand for additional product was very
limited. Offerings of light type hens were
fully adequate to ample for current needs.
