Tm~s~WEEK wit
Improvement and Forgiveness
Was it really 25 years ago that former President
Richard M. Nixon was pardoned 9 September 8
marks the anniversary of the 1974 event. Later in
the week is another time of atonement, Rosh Hashanah
(on September 11 this year), one of the High Holy Days
that celebrates the Jewish New Year and begins the ten
“Days of Awe.” Participants engage in serious reflec
tion on self-improvement, prayer, and fasting. Yom
Kippur is the tenth and final day. The
challah, bread eaten on the
Rosh Hashanah, is traditional
round-shaped, symbolizing
the full year Dipped in
honey, the challah promises
and fruitful new year.
