University of Maryland Professor Named Animal and Avian Sciences Department Chair
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Dr.
Richard Erdman has been
named chair of the Department
of Animal and Avian Sciences at
the University of Maryland
College of Agriculture and
Natural Resources following an
extensive, nationwide search. A
Maryland faculty member since
1979, Erdman will assume his
new position in mid-August.
“Rich will make an excellent
department chair,” said Dr.
Thomas Fretz following the
announcement of Erdman’s
appointment. “As we move into
the next century, he will give
critical leadership as the college
strives to fulfill its commitment
to the poultry, dairy, beef and
aquaculture industries of
Maryland.”
Erdman is looking forward to
the challenge and the change
provided by his new administra
tive duties. “We have a very good
department with outstanding
faculty members,” he said. “I
think we’re in the best position
we’ve been in for 20 years, and I
think we can build on our
strengths and become a truly
outstanding department.”
