CATTLE Compared to Thursday,
slaughter steers and heifers sold .50-100
lower. Sales started out with only slight
weakness and worked progressively
lower to make late cattle liilly 1 00 lower.
There were not enough Holstein steers
on hand to fully test the market Around
70 head sold during Monday
afternoon's special feeder cattle auction
with a good crowd m attendance
Slaughter cows traded weak to 1 00 lower
on a plain offering. Slaughter bulls sold
steady to weak Supply included 49
percent slaughter steers and 38
percent slaughter cows, balance made up
of mostly feeder cattle.

CALVES: Compared to last week,
veal calves sold steady to 7.00 higher on a
good test, as the demand for lightweight
calves to go back to the farm was very
light. Holstein bulls to be placed in
special veal bams sold 13 00- 16.00
lower, with weights under 100 lbs as much
as 45.00 lower. However, the demand
for Holstein heifers continues to build and
prices ranged 15.00-40.00 higher in
very active trading, even for heifers under
75 lbs. Supply included 697 head in the
State graded sale and 82 percent returned
to feed.

CATTLE: Compared to Tuesday,
slaughter steers sold steady to end the week
from .50-1.00 lower. A few top quality
bunches sold slightly higher early, but the
bulk of the supply fell back in line with
Tuesday's lower levels. Holstein steers sold
mostly 1.00 lower and slaughter heifers
were not fully tested. Slaughter cow prices
were mostly steady on a much more attrac
tive set of cows than those sold on Tuesday.
Slaughter bulls traded steady. Supply
included 47 percent slaughter steers and 40
percent slaughter cows.
