MILLMONT (Union Co.) At the annual SUN Area Leadership Training Conference held on May 3, here at Christ United Lutheran Church, Jennifer McWilliams, Heidi Good, Jessica Walter, Sandy Opdyke, and Jessica Catherman represented West Snyder FFA as SUN Area officer candidates. They were interviewed by the current SUN Area officers. The results were as follows: Jennifer McWilliams, SUN Area president; Heidi Good, Snyder County vice president; Sandy Opdyke, SUN Area secretary; Jessica Catherman, SUN Area treasurer; and Jessica Walter, SUN Area chaplain. The entire 1999-2000 FFA officer team from West Snyder FFA Chapter attended the lead ership conference. Each officer and their assistant attended individual sessions to team the duties of their offices. Warren Dutrow, retired West Snyder High School principal, gave keynote address to nearly 100 FFA officers from the SUN Area. FFA members from Cedar Crest participated in parliamen tary procedure, creed speaking, and FFA junior prepared speak ing. Speaking contests require the participants to write a speech on an agricultural related topic. It must be of appropriate length: 6- 8 minutes for senior prepared and conservation, and 3-5 min utes for junior prepared. The speaking contestants must answer up to five minutes of questions from the judges. The parliamentary procedure teams must put on a 20-minute mock meeting demonstrating many parliamentary abilities. The creed contestants must recite the creed and answer judges’ questions about the creed. Judges for the creed were William Erikson, Arba Henry, and Jim Tatro. Judges for the senior prepared public speaking were Larry Devine, Jill Cebenko and Chris McCahren. Carol Stark, Howard Main and Gretchen Oberst judged the junior prepared speaking con test. Conservation public speaking judges were Gerald Heistand, Tara Plewa and David Brookmeyer. Judges for parlia mentary procedure were J. Ray Bickel, Lowell Morton, arid Boyd Robinson. From Cedar Crest, Joel Krall placed second in the region. In FFA prepared speaking, Jason Balsbaugh won first place. In conservation speaking, Erin Templin placed sixth in the region.
