Chickens and Badgers
Rhode Island and Wisconsin share their day of state
hood on May 29th. The former became the 13th state
in 1790, and Wisconsin became the 30th state in
1848. Other than the day, the two states seem to have lit
tle in common. Rhode Island hosts the winter surfing
competitions in February and has the Rhode Island
Greening (an apple), the
j|te Rhode Island red hen, and
the shortest state motto:
Hope. Wisconsin boasts the
dairy cow as its state domestic
animal, Monroe as the center of
the Swiss cheese industry, and Oshkosh as the place to
buy your overalls (B’Gosh). Their motto? Forward!
Every thing that is Jane in the world is
done hy hope
