. Heritage Center Museum of
Lancaster County will be the site
of an exhibition called “The Stars
of Pennsylvania: Lancaster Coun
ty Quilts." Almost all the historic
quilts to be featured in the exhibi
tion will be from private
collections.
Peter Seibert, executive director
of the Heritage Center, said, “From
the broad stripes of Amish quilts to
the intricate piecing of Mennonite
and other work, the rich and end
less variety of county quilts have
captured the interest of collectors,
writers, quills, and the..,,curious.
Accompanying the./ixhibition
will be a publicadOfrOf the' same
title written by local textile scholar
Dr. Patricia T. Herr. The publica
tion will feature 200-300 quilts. A
day long symposium relating to the
history and creation of quilts is
being planned.

Seibert said a county-wide stu
dent contest will also be held in
conjunction with the Heritage
Center display. Three students will

Water SL, will conduct an exhibi
tion on quilt patterns used in art
through the centuries. Mike
Heberlein, owner of Lancaster
Galleries, said the patterns will
range from primitive old drawings
to contemporary realistic wood
carvings of quilts by Fraser Smith.
The exhibition is free and open to
the public during the month of
April 2000.
• Lancaster Museum of Art
will feature contemporary quilts
by national artists in an exhibition
scheduled from April 14-May 29,
2000. Cindi Morrison, director of
the Museum of Art, said uncom
mon threads or unusual materials
will be used in a variety of ways to
create contemporary quilts.
An artists’ discussion is also
slated for Saturday April 29,2000,
from noon to 1 p.m.
• Lancaster Symphony
Orchestra will create a musical
quilt representing a patchwork of
musical styles, JCristie Davis,

Vinegar
Vinegar has a mild acidic na
ture that solves many irksome
problems. For example, to bright
en aluminum pots that have dis
colored from foods and water, fill
them with water, add 'U cup
vingegar, and boil for 20 minutes.
Pour the liquid out, wash and dry
the pot.
Boiling the same solutions of
water and vinegar in the teakettle
can clean it of sediment.
To clean and polish brass and
copper, mix two tablespoons of
salt into one cup of vinegar. Add
just enough flour to make a paste.
Dip a damp cloth into the paste.

sink, and use it as a cleanser.
Remove soap scum in the
shower without damaging the sur
face of new showers and tubs.
