of Entomology at Penn State,

based on his on-going
research on chemically resis
tant paristic mites and their
impact on honeybee colonies.
Bell’s research focuses on the
investigation of Fluvalinate
resistance in Varroa mites
ANNUAL SPRING
and the behavior of swarming
honeybees. Fluvalinate is a
specific chemical used to con
trol the honeybee-killing
Varroa mite. Bell received his
bachelor’s degree in molecu
lar biology from Allegheny
College and his master’s
degree in developmental
genetics from Carnegie-
Mellon University.
