Steer of Merit awards went to
fiv: club members whose animals
met criteria designed to recognize
the demands of the consumer mar
ket. Winners were Kelly Hain,
whose steer graded #2, medium
choice, with a superior live con
formation and average daily gain
of 2.46 pounds, Jessica Harcourt,
with a steer grading #l, medium
choice, with a superior live con
formation and daily weight gain of
2.06 pounds.
Also, Raymond S tough, whose
steer graded #l, high choice, a su
perior live conformation and aver
age daily gain of 2.42 pounds,
Amy Swietzer, yield grade #2,
choice, and an average conforma
tion and daily gain of 2.20 pounds,
and Cory Thompson, yield grade
#l, high choice, with a superior
live conformation and daily
weight gain of 2.00 pounds.
Roll Call awards were present
ed to club members who earned
high scores on their project pro
gress reports at each meeting.
High point scorer was Tammi
Grubb, with a cumulative score of
8.96, second was Cory Thompson,
8.18, and third was Hetman Hake,
8.09 points. Named as winners of
the first-year “Rookie” Roll Call
awards were Shane Miller, first,
Denton Grim, second and Saman
tha Klunk, third.
Spring Dairy
Expo ‘99
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Spring
Dairy Expo ‘99 opens Thursday,
April 1 at the Ohio Expo Center,
Columbus, Ohio, with an
expanded trade show, judging
contests and some of the best
cattle on exhibit from across the
United States and Canada.
Thursday afternoon is high
lighted by a seminar conducted
by Dr. J. K. Shearer, DVM, MS,
and Extension Veterinarian of
the College of Veterinary medi
cine at the University of Florida.
The seminar will focus on lame
ness in dairy cattle.
The American Dairy
Association & Dairy Council
Mid East Bar-B-Que and annual
meeting is always an enjoyable
experience. That evening, the
Ohio Ayrshire Spring Sale and
the Midwest Revue Sale will
offer some of the best Ayrshire
and Brown Swiss cattle avail
able for public auction.
Friday morning, nationally
renowned judges, Brian Garrison
of Ohio and Bob Fitzsimmons of
Vermont will kick off the
Mideast National Spring
Holstein Show and Spring Dairy
Expo Jersey Show at 8 a.m.
During Friday afternoon,
over 60 high quality registered
Holsteins will be offered for sale
through the Spring National
Expo Holstein Sale, followed by
the annual Buckeye Dairy club
Holstein and Jersey Sales.
“Watch at ringside or join in
during the early evening as the
youth compete in the Youth
Showmanship Contest. Later
that evening, the judges again
take to the ring to line-up the

Milk Pricing Meeting Set

Northeast Compact and estab
lishing a marketing club will be
held after lunch.
