Three specially marked bins are in the Farm Show Complex to collect items for the Food Harvest. Gov. Ridge also toured the FArm Show’s exhibits, stopping to meet with agricultural youth parti cipating in the Farm Show. During the opening ceremonies in the large arena, Hayes noted that under Gov. Ridge’s leadership, there have been a number of positive develop- ments fdor Pennsylvania agriculture. “In August, Gov. OH Hayes said. “These efforts have resulted in exports of Holstein heif ers to Lebanon and Puerto Rico; beef livestock genetics to Poland; fine hardwoods to Mexico and Ita ly; and a new market for fresh poul try in Japan.” The Pennsylvania State Police mounted drill team performed dur ing the opening ceremonies. The 20-member team performed a cho reographed drill identical to one conducted for the State Police Rodeo that was held last in 1976 at the Farm Show. Created in 1905, the team was the first of its kind in the nation. The original team con sisted of 228 men and 228 horses and was the primary transportation for the state police at that time. Following the opening ceremo nies, Gov. Ridge stayed to watch the Pcnnylvania High School Rodeo Association Championship Rodeo. In July, the Farm Show’s rodeo was recognized as Ameri ca’s Top Rodco/Livcstoc k Event of 1998 by Events Business News Magazine. Gov.
