We at Susquehanna Valley hairy want to thank all of our customers for
making 1998 another very good year. Jested below are a few we have
been privileged to work with.
1. CUSTOMER OF THE YEAR - Rodney Metzler Family, Pleasant View Farm,
Martinsburg, PA
2. Most Improved Herd of the Year, • Mervin Burkholder, New Holland - moved a herd
from Vermont in October milking 60 lbs. At his farm in New Holland in December they
were right at 80 lbs.
3. Calvin Zimmerman & Jacob Stoltzfus - split a herd from Maine. One of Calvin’s cows,
a 3 year old Mascot was Grand Champion at the Ephrata Fair. Jacob’s herd is doing
extremely well.
4. Matt Stoltzfus, Gap - bought a herd of 39 cows in Vermont in 1997. 17 Months later
he had culled only 3 cows. He bought no replacements and his heifers will soon be
calving.
5. Jim & Sharon Nichol, Nottingham - bought a herd in New York in January, 4 months
later Jim was driving around in a new pickup.
HERDS FOR SALE:
1. Pick 37 from a herd of 72, all registered, 24,000 DHIA, 100,000 SCC, 33 first calf, Sires
are Jurist, Merrill, Zebo, Leadman, Mascot, Polo, etc.
2. 88 Cows, 12 Springing Heifers, 100 head total, pick 80, 19,000 DHIA, 200,000 SCC, all
AI, 16 cows & 12 heifers due in the next 60 days, 18 cows fresh the last 60 days. Milked
in tie barn & housed in free stall barn.
3. 49 Cow Canadian herd - all reg., 17,500 DHIA, currently milking 60,000, top Canadian
bulls.
4. 25 Jerseys due to calve in April 1999, all coming with either Ist or 2nd calf.
5. 45 cow reg. Jersey Herd - 13,200 DHIA, 5.5% 8.F., 4.0% Pro., 1 Year ago the herd was
at 14,500 DHIA. 30 first & second calf.
6. Plus 25 Springing Heifers, AI sired, some are reg. including a Jed daughter with VG
Lindy dam, G. dam VG Starbuck, 3rd & 4th dams VG, 12 heifers from Canada, 8 are
reg.
