During a brief business session, Cindy Stahl informed members of a food drive being held at Elm Country Market For the program, Pennsylvania Wildlife Conservation Officer Tom Grohol, southeast region, spoke on birds of prey and migra tion. He showed a movie on Penn sylvania wildlife and led a discus sion on the many birds and mam mals in and around Lancaster Cpunty. Eleven-year 4-H members re cognized were Chad Funt, Arendtsville and Wayne Flicking er, Biglerville. Four 4-H members were awarded the “I Dare You” Leader ship Award. The award honors 4-H teens for excellence in char acter, balanced personal develop ment, and leadership potential. Those receiving the award were Jessica Coleman, Josh Smith, Aspers; Amber Grimm, East Berlin; Julie Sowers, Gardners. Each recipient received a copy of William H. Danforth’s book, “I Date You!” Elm-Pcnryn 4-H Community Club including a Bald Eagle. There are several eagles and eagle nestings that Officer Grohol checks on each year. He explained that an eagle’s nest is very large about a 6-foot and 4-foot area, and can weigh as much as a car! Officer Grohol also brought a coyote hide which was from a coyote that had been hit on the road near down town Lancaster. North Mountain 4-H North Mountain’s most recent meeting was Nov. 23. The petting zoo at the Good Shepherd Hospital help with The 1,000 Trails Haunted House were discussed as old business. New officers for 1999 arc presi dent, Emily Whitmoyer, vice pre sident, Michelle Blauch; secre tary, Jen Campbell; treasurer, Gre ta Hcagy; and news reporter, Christine Heagy. Crosstich and entomology gave their demonstrations. For new business the club discussed tour ing the Ronald McDonald House handing out the Teddy bears col lected, and singing at Hetshey park’s Candylane. The next meeting will be Jan. 25.
