CATTLE: Compared to last week's
closing prices, slaughter steers and heifers
closed .50 to mostly 1.00 lower on early
week losses. At midweek Western direct
cattle, beef demand, and futures all posted
stiff losses; but local slaughter cattle
showed their losses prior to the fundamen
tal declines and late in week the market had
good strength. Holstein steers ended the
week mostly .50 lower. Slaughter cow
prices finished JO lower, after holding
steady most of the week. Slaughter bulls
closed 1.00 lower with the best sales past
ed late in the week on attractive supplies.
Supply was made up of around 37 percent
slaughter steers, 9 percent slaughter heif
ers, 38 percent slaughter cows, 5 percent
bulls, with the balance feeders.

CALVES: Compared to last week, veal
calves sold 1.00-2.00 higher and slaughter
calves were largely steady. The Holstein
bull calf market turned active on Tuesday
with added buyer interest. Holstein bulls
returning to feed sold 8.00-20.00 higher.
Holstein heifer prices ended the week fully
steady.
