female honors. The January
1998 daughter of Krugerrand
Merger 34 was first named
junior heifer calf champion.

The Cedar Crest FFA recently conducted a petting zoo
at one of their elementary schools. The students enjoyed
petting this Holstein calf.
The Cedar Crest FFA recent
ly held a petting zoo at Ebenezer
Elementary school as part of its
fall harvest day.
Several FFA members partic
ipated by talking about the ani
mals and letting the children
hold the animals. Animals that
were included in the petting zoo
were a calf, goats, ducklings and
baby chickens, pigs, rabbits, and

American FFA Degree
Joanna Wilson, Volant, has a
lot to be proud of. On Nov. 14 she
received the highest degree that
can be bestowed upon an FFA
member, in Kansas City—her
American FFA degree.
Her hard work and dedica
tion to the FFA during high
school and serving as state offi
cer truly helped her to accom
plish her goals.

To earn the American Degree
you must have earned or invest
ed at least $lO,OOO through
supervised agricultural experi
ence programs. Wilson’s projects
included raising dairy cows and
market swine. She also did a
work experience program on a
local dairy farm. She considers
herself a hard worker and has
learned that without hard work
and dedication, she wouldn’t be
where she is today.

Jeremy Balsbaugh, and Erin
Templin.
Joanna also received a letter
stating that she had received a
$l,OOO scholarship from the
National FFA. The Ford
Division - Ford Motor Company
sponsors the scholarship. The
Ford Truck scholarship is one of
1,200 awarded through the
National FFA Scholarship
Program this year. More than
200 corporate sponsors gener
ously contribute more than $1.5
million to support this program.
This is the 15th year that the
scholarships have been made
available through the National
FFA Foundation by business
and industry sponsors to reward
and encourage excellence and
enable students to pursue their
educational goals.
Scholarship recipients were
selected from more than 7,500
applicants across the country.
Selections were based on the
applicant’s academic record,
FFAand other school and com
munity activities, supervised
agricultural experience program
in agricultural education, career
plans, and financial need.
Joanna attends Penn State
and plans to major in agricultur
al education. She enjoyed teach
ing young adults about agricul
ture during her year as a state
officer and would like to contin
ue that as a career. Hdr parents
are David and Linda Wilson and
her FFA adviser at Wilmington
High School is Dave Ward.
