Managing Editor
HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.)— Officials of eight Pen
nsylvania commodity groups met
at the Farm Show Complex Thurs
day meaning to witness the grand
opening of a new year-round food
serving area just inside the main
exhibition hall at the front door.
Named the “Keystone Kafc,“ the
new food area is designed to serve
Pennsylvania food products to the
thousands of people who visit the
complex to attend exhibitions that
are held throughout the year.
Pennsylvania's agriculture sec
retary Samuel Hayes Jr., con
ducted the event saying people
traditionally expect good food at
the farm show. Now it will be pos
sible for good food to be offered at
all exhibitions throughout the year.
“I am very pleased the Farm
Show staff worked with the Pen
nsylvania commodity groups to
make it possible to give sharper
focus to the foods that are produced
here,” Hayes said. “Our new state
theme “Agriculture Products for
the Planct“ causes us to think glob
ally, which we must. But we must
also play good at home. When you
he. 7 strong commodity groups as
\. Lave in Pennsylvania you can’t
help but play good at home.”
The new food vending area is
managed by a newly formed com
pany called the Pennsylvania Agri
culture Company.
This company is comprised of
the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association; Pen
nsylvania Livestock Association; Pennsylvania
Bakers Association; Pennsylvania Potato Grow
ers; Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Association;
Pennsylvania Mushroom Growers Association;
and the State Horticulture Association of Pen
nsylvania. The commodity groups that partici
pate in the food court at the Pennsylvania Farm
Show will continue as in the past
Dave Smith, who represents the Dairymen’s
Association is the president of the new company.
He said the goal of the new Keystone Kafc is to
facilite the commodity organizations* food ser
vice to the large number of visitors to the Farm
Show Complex each year. In addition, these
commodity groups fund research, product deve
lopment, educational programs and youth prog
rams that will be supported by the profits from
this venture.
