York Farm YORK (York Co.) Birds, birthdays, and benefits to the community were celebrated as part of the annual meeting of the York County Society of Farm Women. The group held its 59th annual gathering November 4 at Wisehaven Hall. The more than 200 attending the meeting were greeted with a program decorated with birds, birdhouse table centerpieces, and table favors, songs and tales about birds, even scripture related to birds was included in devotions. The birdhouse center pieces were handpainted by York Farm Women president Lois Manifold and “Ducky” Baker, with Groups 1,30, and 33 A woven coverlet fund-raiser held by the York Farm women generated donations of $950 each to Habitat for Humanity and the York County Agency on Aging. But it was the nests of sever al community organizations which were feathered by the actions of the Farm Women, as they fulfilled their theme song and “brightened the corner where they are.” The $1,900 pro ceeds of a drawing for a woven coverlet were divided in equal $950 contributions to Habitat for Humanity and the York County Office on Aging. In addition, non-perishable food items donated by the soci ety’s members attending the conventions covered a long line of tables at the convention entrance. Numerous boxes of the m * a.aa m dry and canned food staples were packed and delivered from the Society to New Life for Children, Glen Rock, New Hope Ministries, Dillsburg and the Church of God, Yocumtown, for delivery to needy families. Four county members were honored as 90-year-olds. Iva Craft, Betty Stangler, and Margaret Neff are members of Group 1, while Sarah Moul is a member of Group 4. Saluted during the session as 80-year-old members were the following: Millie Griffith, Group 1; Mary Hoff, Group 4; Dorothy Master and Florence Sprenkle, Group 5; Mabel Warner and Marie Hair, Group 12; Marie Smyser, Group 13; Marian Leipart, Group 21; Dorothy Sinclair, Group 29; and Ruther Traver, Group 26. A memorial service, led by Genet Sellers, Group 9, paid tribute to 10 of the county’s for mer members who'died since the last gathering. Remembered during the touching devotions were Emma Myers, Group 6; Mildred Anderson, Group 9; Margaret Tyson and Gladys Craley, Group 12; Ruth May, Group 14; Emma Myers and Sara Myers, Group 17; Kathryn Pomraning, Group 21; Janie Reinhart, Group 28; and Agnes Smith, Group 34. During the business session, members re-elected Hester Hemminger, Group 18, to anoth er term as the Society’s treasur er. Other officers are president Lois Manifold, first vice-presi dent Arlene Miller, Group 11, second vice-president Treva Stiles, Group 18; and secretary Dolly Sutton, Group 15. Society member Naomi Bupp reported on continuing sales of the Pennsylvania Society of Farm Women cookbook. The cookbook was a state project undertaken by Mrs. Bupp dur ing her term as state president and has sold more than 22,000 since the first printing. Proceeds benefit the state Scholarship Fund, which this past year pre sented $7,000 in higher educa tion assistance to nine scholar ship winners. Special presentations were given by the York County Dairy Princess Jessica Pomraning and Dairy Princess Alternate Heather Growl. The Meek Family entertained during the afternoon program, offering musical selections.
