I hope she’s not last," said Amy Jo before the national show where “there are lots of animals from all over. I know there arc better ani mals around, because I saw them at Harrisburg” where she com peted in both the All-American show and the Pennsylvania state show. Amy and Mickey placed third in the state open class. And they did very well at the national, bringing home a seventh place and were rated second among the competitors from Pennsylvania. Stephanie Carson, Washington County, who partici pated in another show class, was rated first among the Common wealth participants. This was the second trip to the Westmoreland fair for this animal, which had come in third in 1997. “The maturing that comes with freshening a couple times” made the difference according to Amy Jo’s mother. “We have one of her did.” The steps to the national in cluded shows where first and sec ond can go on to the next level. Amy Jo and Mickey won first in the Mon Valley District Show at Washington, then went on to grab first in the 4-H state show, Harris burg. Amy is a student at Southmore land High School in Westmore land County.
