Grain Market
St. Joseph, MO
Wed Nov 11, 1998
USDA-MO Dept Ag Market News
DAILY NATIONAL GRAIN
SUMMARY
Little change in wheal bids today but
prices continued stronger. Indications that
Morocco and Tunisia bought EU wheat
overnight kept wheat bids from jumping
higher. However, 80 million bushels are
still needed to fill Russian aid package.
Com and soybean bids were higher on spil
lover support from Tuesday's trading.
Wheat steady to 4 cents higher. Com 4 to 5
cents higher. Sorghum 6 to 9 cents higher.
Soy- beans 6 to 9 cents higher. Fund buy
ing on the Board and tight farmer holding
were factors in higher com bids, Wednes
day. Some contract highs were set for soy
beans that haven't been see since July.
USDA’s cut in estimated ending stocks
figures yesterday carried over, moving
bids higher. Higher soy- bean meal bids
offered additional support to bids.

Feeder Cattle
Oklahoma City, OK
Wed Nov 11, 1998
USDA-OK Dept Ag Market News
Oklahoma National Stockyards - Week
ly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week; Feeder steers
and heifers 1.00-3.00 lower. Wet feedlot
conditions and snow storm in north turned
feeder demand light. Steer and heifer
calves steady to 2.00 higher. Demand good
for lighter calves suitable for early wheat
pasture, but fairly light for heavy end of
calves. Feeder cattle quality mostly plain,
few either attractive or thin. Calf quality
genetically average to attractive. However,
calf flesh condition moderate to fleshy and
this several degrees more than last week.
Bulk supply continues calves. Slaughter
cows 1.00-2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls
1.00 higher. Demand good from packets,
feeders, and replacement buyers. Buying
momentum has switched from the north to
the south as south Texas packers become
aggressive for cows at auction to fill their
slaughter needs. This the first time since
drought runs began in spring that south
Texas has been a power player in this cow
market. 55 percent of the 1,400 cows and
bulls went to packets with balance to feed
ers, grazers, and cow-calf operators.
Receipts this week 14,100; last week
8,924; last year 12,886. Supply consisted
of 38 percent yearlings and calves over 600
lbs; 52 percent calves under 600 lbs; 10
percent cows and hulls. Prices follow with
weighted average weight and price in
parenthesis.
