PFB’s annual meeting activi ties on Monday will begin with an informal conference at 9:30 a.m. on the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). The Environmental Protection Agency’s plans for implementing the 1996 FQPA threaten to ban many important farm chemicals without any improvements in food quality or food safety. Adam Sharp, assistant director of reg ulatory affairs at the American Farm Bureau Federation, will discuss the problem and what agriculture is doing to solve it. Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 14, 1998-A43 Deliberations on proposed additions and revisions to PFB’s current policies on farm issues will begin at 2 p.m. with a roll call of voting delegates from the county farm bureaus. The dele gates will be meeting over the next two and one-half days to consider about 120 policy resolu tions which were developed from grass-roots input by individual members. Several more information conferences will take place Monday. At 2 p.m., John Becker, assistant professor of agricultur al law and economics at The Pennsylvania State University, will conduct a session entitled “All in the Family The Family’s Role in Business Planning.” The presentation will explore opportunities for, and obstacles to, expanding the role that fami lies play in modern business decision-mak ing situations, particularly those that involve agriculture. A panel of guest speakers will address “Assistance With Long-Term Health Care” in an annual meeting session from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dale Laninga, executive director of the Intra-governmental Council of Long Term Care at the Pennsylvania Department of Aging; Vicki Trimmer, an associate with the Harrisburg law firm of Mette, Evans & Woodside; and Steven Brady, marketing manager for the Nationwide Insurance Enterprise; will point out the myths and facts about long-term health care and will discuss options avail able for covering the expenses of long-term care. The annual meeting of the PFB Marketing Cooperative will begin at 3:30 p.m., as will the business meeting of the PFB Young Farmer & Rancher Committee. Visitors and those attending the PFB Annual Meeting will have ample time to learn more about the programs and ser vices available to Farm Bureau members by visiting the annual meeting exhibit area which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. Monday evening, the annual meeting will take on a 1950 s “Let’s Go to the Hop” theme for the presentation of membership and Farm Bureau program awards. The activities will begin with a membership dinner at 6 p.m. County farm bureaus will be recognized for membership achieve ments during the past year and for excel lence in carrying out Farm Bureau pro grams.
