Grain Market
St. Joseph, MO
Wed Nov 04, 1998
Rains delayed harvest and country eleva
tors making more storage room and hoping
to avoid big outside piles df commodities
this Fall. Rails doing a better job of moving
grains than executives had indicated early.
Some tracks are now under water due to
flooding central Kansas. Sparks crop pro
duction estimates showed slight increases
in com and soybeans, but nothing to be a
big market swing. Com estimated to be 80
percent harvested and soybeans 60 percent
Combines still got a lot of ground to cover
and now must fight the weather elements.
Producers need two weeks of sunshine and
dry weather to get the agony over with.
Good yields sure helped low prices, but
many repotting soybeans below expecta
tions.
