ROLLING HERD AVERAGE 23,000 LBS. For this Chester County dairy farm, the family in family farm is really obvious. Not only do Samuel and Marian Stoltzfus take a special interest in their cows, their three children, Jay Richard 13, Beverly 12, and Andrea 7, do too. Checking the DHIA records to see how their favorite cows are doing or checking calf ID reports to anticipate future cow family possibilities are all part of what these Stoltzfus youths call fun. Milking 71 registered and grade Holsteins under the Chester-Plane prefix, rolling herd average production is at 23,000 pounds of milk with individual records to 35,000 pounds. Right now, the herd is being moved to a modern dairy barn that sits on 13 acres between route 30 and the main road into Coatesville. The Stoltzfus family started to buy the dairy herd 15 years ago and now they have purchased their farm. They also rent 300 acres for crop production and nutrient management. Samuel is especially pleased with Purina feeds and service. “I have fed Purina feeds all my life to all my dairy animals from calves, heifers, and dry cows to the milking herd,” Samuel said. I wouldn’t feed anything else. I’m satisfied with production and have no complaints about service. “I have also visited their research farm and this farm gives the company a great advantage. Whenever they have a feed it has been tested before it is put on the market. They don’t try it out on you. It’s down pat before it gets to the farmer.” Purina representative Doug High says it is a real pleasure to work with the young Stoltzfus family because it has been the cows that have paid the bills and allowed them to buy the herd and now buy a farm. The Stoltzfus family is quick to give credit to others and the Lord for the support they have received along the way. • I, •<£ t:v’> ■t rwiwq Wirt® BEDFORD FARM jyieAt Badlwd,PA f Evarett, PA 8tt426K1‘4313 V NawEnterprisa, PABI4-7«5-332« FRANKLIN FEED & SUPPLY I*oo* V* 1977 Philadelphia Ave, Chambereburg, PA 717-264-6148 BERLIN MILLING RD #1 -BoxBB Berlin, PA 15530 814-267-4124 RITTER FEEDS P.0.80x 306-LR 3008 Paxtonville, PA 17861 717-837-3606
