resenting First Union National
Bank for $3.75 per pound.
Rachel Day’s 122-lb. reserve

champion lamb was purchased
by Alan Strock, representing
Blue Ball National Bank, for
$3.50 per pound.
Support for the Grassland
FFA’s Dr. Robert D. Herr
Scholarship Fund was evident
when Rachel Day’s purebred
dorset wether, originally donat
ed by Nix Bessler Dorsets,
topped the sale. The lamb was
purchased at the FFA
Foundation Golf Tournament by
Pepsi before being donated back
to Day for her to raise and show
at the local fairs. The scholar
ship lamb brought the top bid of
the evening. Menno Eby of MH
Eby, Inc. paid $6 per pound for
the lamb. Day will donated half
of the sale price to the
Grassland FFA scholarship
fund. The Robert D. Herr
Scholarship is awarded to a
deserving member of the
Grassland FFA who has shown
livestock as part of their SAE
program and/or who is majoring
in an animal science or agricul
tural education curriculum in
college. The infamous “Pepsi
lamb” earned more than $2,600
for the scholarship fund, the
state FFA Foundation, and its
owner, Rachel Day.
In all, 50 lambs were sold for
an average price of $1.59 per
pound with none of the lambs
bringing less than $1 per pound.
“We really appreciate the
support of all the buyers
throughout the entire sale, and
the outstanding job done by
Allen and Carol Diffenbach, who
once again donated their auc
tioneering skills to benefit these
junior exhibitors,” said Clifford
Day, show and sale chairman.
