In his own address to the audi ence, Secretary Hayes said the future is bright for agriculture in Pennsylvania. “I can’t help but be excited about agriculture. 1 have never been as excited (about agriculture) as I am at the present time. There’s never been a brighter moment.” He said that to appreciate his understanding and outlook of agri culture, it is necessary to under stand the context of the past and present While not specific, the sense of the secretary’s brief address was that given the changes around the world with governments (trending from being closed or antogonistic ruling structures to becoming governing structures more on track toward democtacry and free markets), and the resultant opening of trade or at least discus sions of fair trade the potential and opportunities for Pennsylvan ia to market its agricultural pro ducts globally have never been Finished with Baked on TGIC Polyester Powder Coating With Kverneland Forged Steel Spears • Electrically Heat Treated Yhese spears are stronger & allow easier bale penetration fCOM 2502 • Fits any 3 pt. hitch or loader boom with 1 or 2 cylinders • Easy to change from 1 to 2 spears • 2500 lb. capacity 2 PT 1000 • Attaches to lo\ 3 pt. arms om • Safety chains \. • 1000 lb. capacity Feed Big Round & Regular Bales or Stacks with 4’, s’, 6’, 8’ & 10’ panels Paul B. Hayes recently returned from a trade mission to South Africa, and although details of the trip are yet to come (trade missions help estab lish relationships which can lead to trade negotiations), he said it was a success. He has made several trade mis sions in the past year and most have led to improved relations as well as actual trade. Hayes said that the horse indus try in Pennsylvania is as important to the state and to him, as secretary, as are all the other aspects of agriculture. “I can’t help but be proud to have the equine industry we have in Pennsylvania,” he said. “I don’t want anyone to think that this sec retary doesn’t recognize the integ ral part (the equine industry plays).” Charles Itle, Farm Show lives tock show manager said that KILE 1998 was one of the best to date, with the KILE horse shows the £ In PFL 4000 • Front end loader fork ■ _ • Includes chain & binders • 1500 lb. capacity Added Value With Our 2 Coat Process! _ y\.
