BEDFORD (Bedford Co.)
How does a judge pick a
supreme champion from a dairy
show made up of six breeds.
' “It’s now easy,” said the judge
at the Bedford County Fair
Open Dairy Show. “Each breed
has its own characteristics. But
we do have certain things to look
for. We give 40% for udders, 15%
for legs, 15% on the frame and
20% on dairy characteristics.”
The judge then shook the
hand of Jan Snider leading his
4-year-old Guernsey into the
ring indicating this as the
supreme champion at the
Bedford County Fair.
Reserve supreme went to
Holly Morse for her red and
white with Blackcrest BM
Katie-Red. Holly resides at Five
Forks Farm in Clearville.
The supreme champion show
concluded the almost day-long
open dairy show.
Roger Brant showed this
year’s grand champion Ayrshire.
Brant is from Black Log
Mountain Farms in Mt. Union.

Is Every Cattleman’s Business!!
All Pennsylvania cattle producers are invited to attend one of the fall educational
meetings sponsored by the Pennsylvania Beef Council, the Pennsylvania Cattleman’s
Association, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Pennsylvania Live
stock Markets Association, Taylor Packing, and Moyer Packing. The meetings will
bring cattle producers the latest information on targeting breeding for customer
satisfaction, culling strategies, and enhancing beef quality and product value. The
beef industry is going through tough times and facing increasing competition, but
with good information, cattlemen can meet the challenges.
