A34*Lancast*r Fuming, Saturday, Octobar 10, 1998 CENTER HALL (Centre Co.) The Centre County Grange Fair open dairy show was held early this month in Centre Hall. Steve Shaw of Williamsburg, sorted through 161 animals of five breeds to find their respec tive champions. The Ayrshire and Brown Swiss shows were predominate ly taken home by Charles Liner. The only honor that he did not take was Jr. Champion, which Holly Heinrichs received. Four Springs Jerseys was farm pre-fix of three of the four champion Jerseys. Jennifer Kellerman owns the jr. champi on winter calf and her brother Joshua owns the res. jr. champi on spring calf. J. Craig & Susan Wicker (Four Springs Jerseys) had the grand champion 4 yr. old and EDN-RU Jerseys (Harold & Shirley Harpster & Family) own the res. grand champion aged cow. Mary Anne Clouser swept the Milking Shorthorn show, Jr. champion was her spring year ling, grand champion was her 5 yr. old and res. grand champion was her Jr. 2 yr. old. In the Holstein breed the show is split. The calf and heifer classes are during the day and the cow classes are in the evening. Emily Clonmger with her fall calf had jr. champion and Lon Connelly had res. jr champion with her fall yearling. In the cow classes the fair com mittee and Centre Co. Holstein club sponsor a three year old futurity class. Dean Kleckner, president of the world’s largest farm organi zation and a trade adviser serv ing under three U.S. presidents, will keynote the 22nd Annual Lancaster County Agriculture- Industry Banquet, Nov. 24, at the Lancaster Host Resort at 6:30 p.m. Kleckner, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation, will speak to an expected audience of 600 at the event. Prior to becoming AFBF president, Kleckner was president of the lowa Farm Bureau for 10 years and a member of the AFBF board of directors. He served on numerous Advisory Committees, including the National Economic Commission and the U.S. Trade Advisory Committee where he was first appointed by President Reagan, reappointed in October 1989 by President Bush and since reappointed bv President Clinton. Ag Day and Pell can be seen at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday on WPMT Channel 43 and Saturdays on WGAL, Channel 8 also at 5:30 a.m. The George C. Delp Award honoring someone whom has given outstanding contributions to agriculture and agri-business will again be presented at the banquet. Families receiving the Century Farm Award will also be honored. Tickets are $4O per person or $350 for a table of 10.
