how to control ants, here is an answer from Elizabeth
Beaver, Ringtown.
Long-Term Ant Control Balt
Start by making a one percent boric acid and 20
percent sugar solution by thoroughly dissolving 1
teaspoon boric acid and 6 tablespoons sugar in 2
C h w f te f- 00 this in a clear jar so you can see when
all the boric acid crystals are dissolved. Soak some
cotton balls in this bait solution.
Make bait dispensers out of some old plastic mar
garine tugs with lids. Punch holes in them so the ants
can get inside; then put the cotton balls into the con
tainers and cover them with the lids so the bait won’t
dryout.
Place the bait containers wherever you see the
ants.
Clean the containers and freshen up the bait solu
tion at least once a week.
Be patientl Let those worker ants continually carry
boric acid back to feed that ants in the nest.
After a few weeks, reduce the boric acid content to
one half percent and use that for long-term control
Using a very low dose makes it more likely that ser
wncmg ants will continue eating the bait and taking it
back to the nest.

Kicks Off
Campaign

—The kick-off for the new
Adams County Agricultural and
Natural Resource Center’s
Capital Campaign is scheduled
for Sunday, Sept. 27, from 2-5
p.m.
The $400,000 Capital
Campaign money will be used to
purchase furnishings and
amenities for the new center.
The event is being held at the
site location for the new build
ing; just off the Old Harrisburg
Road (Cumberland Township),
across from the Adams County
National Bank Branch office
and North Gettysburg Shopping
Center.
The afternoon program
begins at 3 p.m. It will include
remarks from Penn State
Cooperative Extension, Adams
County Conservation District
representatives and the County
Commissioners.
Team-leaders and others
involved in the Capital
Campaign will also be recog
nized. Entertainment is being
provided by the Littlestown
Area Municipal Band.
Refreshments to be provided by
various commodity groups from
the county.
Registration and children’s
games and activities are being
organized by the Adams County
4-H Senate.
