Any youth interested in par ticipating in the beef club will have options focused on breed ing animals and/or market steers. 4-H beef club members will learn how to properly select, house, feed and otherwise man age a beef type animal(s), including marketing. Youth also will learn leader ship skills by being a member of the 4-H Beef Club. Public speak ing, parliamentary procedure, problem solving, decision mak ing, public relations, and cooper ation are just some of the skills 4-H members can learn if they are involved in the 4-H program. For potential 4-H members who desire to maintain a market steer project, animals must be purchased prior to November so all members can participate in the annual 4-H Market Steer weigh-in, usually held the first Saturday in November. (717) 786-7373 Lanorter Farming, Saturday, October 3, 1998-B5 Horse Enthusiasts Invited to Hooftalk Clinic Area veterinarians, 4-H horse club leaders, stable man agers, farriers, and 4-H club members are invited to attend a "Hooftalk Clinic" scheduled this month in Northampton County at Willowbrook Farm. More specifically, Lyle E. ’Bergy" Bergeleen, president of Hooftalk, Inc., a West coast far rier and author to two manuals and two videotapes on hoof care, will conduct two clinics address ing hoof care and horse lame ness. He will focus his talk/clinic on finding natural balance to prevent horse lameness. He also will discuss hoof and horse bal ance asymmetry compensation and navicular syndrome. The clinic on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. is offered specifically for horse owners, 4-H leaders and 4-H members and stable managers. The cost of the clinic is $20.00 per person. the second clinic on Friday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is offered specifically for farriers and horse veterinarians. The cost of this clinic is $3O per per son. Both of these clinics are being sponsored by Willowbrook Farm and the Penn State Cooperative Extension and Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
