Market Administrator Ronald C. Pearce also stated that the price was $13.53 in July 1998. The uniform price is a marketwide weighted average of the value of farm milk used for fluid and manufactured dairy prod ucts. A total of 9,691 dairy farmers supplied handlers regulated under the New York-New Jersey marketing orders with 989,733,727 pounds of milk during August 1998. This was a decrease of 1 5 percent (about 15 million pounds) from last year. The gross value to dairy farmers for milk deliveries was $147,753,996.74. This included differentials required to be paid to dairy farm ers but not premiums, deductions authorized by the farmer, or assessments. Regulated handlers used 387,291,542 pounds of milk for Class I, 39.1 percent of the total. This milk is used for fluid milk products such as homogenized, flavored, low test, and skim milks For August 1998, handlers paid $15.52 per hundredweight (33.4 cents per quart) for Class I milk compared with $13.16 a year ago. Handlers used 154,423,065 pounds of milk for Class II products, 15.6 percent of the total. Class II products include fluid cream, eggnog, ncotta and cottage cheese, ice cream, and yogurt. Handlers paid $13.40 per hundred weight for this milk.
