Correspondent HUNTINGDON (Huntingdon Co.) —“I’m overwhelmed we did it again!” exclaimed Naomi Speer just minutes after her 9-year-old Holstein cow in the 125,000 Class won grand champion of its breed at the Huntingdon County Fair, held mid-August in Huntingdon. My-Favorite Vanguard Kandi has been a favorite of judges at various Holstein shows over the past few years, winning the grand champion rosette again and again for Speerette Farms. Naomi said Kandi peaked in lactation in April and May at 154 pounds a day. Holstein judge Kress Simpson commended the amount of milk she is producing for her age. In the rest of the Holstein Show, BRKN - Mirror Boutonnier Tara, an aged cow owned by Jim and Kim Grove and Bob Hamner, earned reserve grand champion honors. This 6-year-old won re serve All-Pennsylvania as a 4-year-old in 1996. A county show doesn’t get any better than this. Junior Holstein champion hon ors went to Nathan Couch’s win ter yearling, Lakevue Warner Spearmint, while Samantha Foster won reserve junior champion with her fall calf, Globe Run Milan Pop Com. Judge of the colored breed shows was Rick Verbeek. Verbeek chose Eugenia Harp ster’s aged cow as the Jersey grand champion and Joyce Harp ster’s 5-year-old for reserve grand champion. Gregory McMurtrie showed the junior champion while Harold and Shirley Harpster enter ed the reserve junior champion Jersey. In the Ayrshire Show, Alan Brant showed his aged cow to win grand champion honors. Alan Brant had entered the other half of his show herd at the Fulton Coun- 17-274-2551 ty Fair where he took grand and reserve champion. Huntingdon County’s Dairy Princess Sara Hayden showed her aged cow to win reserve grand champion hon ors. Junior champion went to Chris Semple’s fall Ayrshire calf while A. Carolyn Loucks won re serve junior champion with her fall yearling. Seven animals were entered in the Brown Swiss show. Nicholas Burket won both grand and re serve grand champion. Abigail Mowrer won junior champion honors with her spring yearling. In the Guernsey Show, Jan Sni der showed a 4-year-old to win grand champion. Snider Home stead also took junior and reserve junior champion honors. Reserve grand champion went to Amber Clark and her junior 2-year-old. Alan Roger Brant won grand champion in the Milking Short horn show with his 4-year-old while Douglas Hoover Jr., showed his 4-year-old to win reserve grand champion.
