LAURELTON (Union Co.)
The 20th Annual Union County
4-H and .'FFA Junior Livestock
Sale took place here at the West
End Fairgrounds recently.
Forty-nine Union County youth
participated in this year’s sale,
which grossed more than $34,000.
A total of seven rabbit meat
pens, 11 steers, 34 market hogs,
and 41 market lambs were sold by
auctioneer Bryan D. hnes of Port
Royal.
This year’s grand champion
market steer was purchased by
Robert Hamm of the Countiy
Cupboard in Lewisburg. A bid of
$3 a pound was received for the
1,325-pound Angus steer, owned
by Adam Wolfe of New Colum
bia. Adam is the son of Dennis
and Anna Wolfe of Lewisburg.
The reserve champion market
steer was purchased by Bill
Campbell of Hoss’s Steak and
Seahouse. A bid of $2.50 a pound
was given for the 1,240-pound
Angus crossbred steer owned by
Jeremy Wolfe. Jeremy is also the
son of Dennis and Anna Wolfe of
Lewisburg. In a show of support
and commitment to Union County
youth. Hoss’s resold the steer with
the proceeds being split between
the 4-H and FFA scholarship
funds.
The grand champion market
hog was owned by Jessica Byerly
of New Columbia. The 234-pound
cre -shred Duroc hog was pur
chased by Robert Hamm for the

At the recent Allentown Fair Dairy
Goat Show, Brant Kloiber, Bath,
won best doe in show with his
4-year-old Alpine.

Middleburg Auction for $6.50 a
pound. The 109-pound reserve
champion lamb was raised by
Derek Rice of Mifflinburg. Derek
is a FFA member and the son of
Thomas and Evelyn Rice.
A total of 43 different indivi
duals purchased animals at this
year’s sale. The average price paid
per pound excluding the champion
and reserve champion animals

and Lambs - $1.21.
