    GRANTVILLE (Dauphin Co.)
A statewide farm safety work
shop, which also encompasses all
terrain vehicle and gun safety, will
be conducted here at the Holiday
Inn OcL 11-12.
The workshop is funded by the
National Institute of Occupational
Safety and Health (NIOSH), with
the possibility of additional fund
ing if the workshop can register
mote than 25 teams for the work
shop, according to Cynthia L.
Shaffer, West Snyder High
School.
The program, called Partners
For A Safer Community, was
developed by the National FFA
Organization in collaboration with
many safety organizations and the
assistance of numerous corporate
sponsors.
Teams will be trained to imple
ment local safety programs and
asked to sign a commitment to
conduct a minimum of one safety
activity witliin the next year.
'The state training team in Pen
nsylvania believes that farm safety
is a very important topic,” noted
Shaffer. “The Partners For A Safer
Community" Program puts the
materials in the hands of rural lead
ers in order to promote safety and
health-promoting behaviors
among Pennsylvanians.”

Workshop To Provide Tools For Safety Education
teach safety (valued at mote than
$200) will be given to each safety
team at no cost. Door prizes valued
up to $25 will also be offered to
help teams begin building their
safety material inventory.
Hotel fee, meals, registration
fee, and materials for the work
shop are sponsored by a regional
grant from NIOSH. The farm safe
ty program is offered free of
charge for the first 25 teams to
register. A team should consist of
one extension agent or FFA advis
er, one 4-H member or FFA mem
ber, and one community leader.
The conference will be offered
at a cost of $375 per team after the
first 25 teams have been
registered.
Because of the nature of the con
ference, only one team per county
and one team per FFA chapter will
be trained free of charge. Over
night accommodations will
include a double room for adults
and three to four per room for
students.
