A24-L«nc«ster Farming, Saturday, September 12, 1998 (Continued from Page A 2) demand all week at the current price ranges. Western direct feedlot trade turned slightly higher late in the week to end mostly 57.00-SB.OO. October live cattle futures also advanced this week and are trading near the 60.00 range. All this could be a hint that we have seen the bottom of this cycle's cattle market slump. A good supply of local slaughter cows sold steady to 1.00 lower and slaughter bulls closed 1.00-130 lower. This week’s supply was made up of around 42 percent slaughter steers, S percent slaughter heifers, 36 per cent slaughter cows, 4 percent bulls and the balance were feeder cattle. In Philadelphia, medium prices were unchanged to one cent lower; in Boston, extra large and large prices were unchanged to one cent higher; in New England, extra large and large prices were two cents high er; and the balance of prices was unchanged. The market tone was mixed with large-sized brown eggs fully steady to firm. Demand was in a full range of light to good, mostly moderate. Supplies of mediums were fully adquate, extra large were tight, and other sizes were generally adequate. Brown eggs in New England remained short, especially the larger weights. Breaking stock supplies were adequate for the light demand. Offers of spent hens were sufficient for full slaughter schedules. PRICES TO RETAILERS, SALES TO VOLUME BUYERS.
