    Allentown Market Champion ‘Secret’

At the Allentown Fair, market
lamb champion Laura Segan
didn’t want to reveal too many sec
rets about how to obtain the
banner.
Only this: exercise the lambs.
“Spend time with them," she said.
Laura, 18, daughter of Kathy
and Jeff Segan, Allentown, won
supreme market lamb champion
with her heavyweight lamb,
weighing 139 pounds, a Hamp
shire purebred at the fair recently.
Laura, a freshman at Mary wood
University in Scranton studying
elementary and special education,
said this was her first champion
ship at Allentown. She won at the
Thursday evening show with
“Nicky,” one of a triplet.
Nicky’s sister won first place in
the middle weight division.
Laura helps on her family’s
50-head Hampshire farm in New
Tripoli.
John Conaway, Suffolk breeder
from Newville, judged the show.
He picked Laura’s champion out
of the 4-H show. He noted that it is
possible to to get size and “mus
cling along with it.”
Reserve champion in the 4-H
division was won by Amy Wehr,
18, daughter of Delores and Elmer
Wehr, Orrfield. Amy showed a
purebred Dorset lamb weighing
124 pounds, the reserve
heavyweight.
Amy said she plans to study
large animal science at Delaware
Valley College in the fall.

time Lehigh County 4-H Sheep
Club member and this was her first
championship at Allentown. Amy
plans to show at roundup. Key

Expo, and Farm Show.
The breed show extended over
two days, Thursday and Friday.
At the fair, ag ed showman
champion and overall showman
champion was awarded to Billy
Leib. 4-H showman was Meredith
Ruzowicz.
There were a total of 51 exhibi
tors and 284 sheep at Allentown,
down from 343 last year, follow
ing is a partial list of show
