Lancaster Society 18 Lancaster Farm Women Society 18 met Aug. IS at Kreider’s Restaurant with Mary Lou Shelton as hostess. Present were 17 mem bers and two guests. Edna Buck waiter gave a devotional. President Martha Stoner presided at the metdng. The program was a short narra tion about a group biking trip from Seattle. Washington to Rehobeth Beach. Julie Wissler with her husband performed a similar feat by motor cycle several years ago. The meeting ended with the reminder that the September meet ing will be held Sept 19 with hus bands and guests meeting for lunc heon at Leola Family Restaurant Qfyps on President Pauline Stoltfus opened her home to the Society of Farm Women #l4 on May 13 with hostesses Miriam Groff and Esther Landis. ‘Mother’ was the topic of Esther’s devotional. Roll Call response to the question, “How many baskets in your house?” proved that members could have a display of hundreds of baskets if put together. Members participated with a story, poem, article of interest to make the program special. The variety had members laughing or hear tears, even deeply inspired. Miriam Groff received a beautiful pin honoring her 80 year birthday. Donna Coleman and Helen Hershey hosted the June 10th meeting at the home of Janet Leaman. Members discovered the age of ladies present ranged from 14 to 84 since members answered the roll call’s question “How many candles on your birthday cake?” The program featured “Janet’s Interest” by Janet Leaman. In spite of some painful health problems those activities continue. In heavy rain showers on July 8, the Society #l4 gathered at the Farm & Home Center to meet with friends from Farm Women Society #27 of the Mount Joy Area. Hostesses Ruth Combs and Ellen Newswanger graced the room with lovely table settings and also arranged quite a feast with all the casseroles, salads, and desserts carried in by members. Knowledge of perennial and annual plant gardens was very much increased as Donald Deiter, proprietor of The Cottage Garden Shop, showed slides of beautiful landscape ideas with variations of color with timing of blooms. He carefully gave names and habits of many, many plants. Two days before members involvement at the Amazing Maze on Aug. 15, the Society met at the Tinney Pavilion, Strasburg park for the Annual picnic. Rhoda Landis, Ruth Kreider, and Jean Groff served as hostesses. They provided bev erages to complement the many covered dishes of ‘ummy’ food. Members were visited by Aunt Lizzie, all ‘done-out’ in her unique attire from sun-bonnet to high top shoes. Her humor and wit were a portrayal of a talent ed gentleman, Ben Landis. Berks Society 6 Berks County Farm Women Group #6 held their July meet ing at the home of Karen Hoffman. A report on the County board meeting was given and volunteers recruited for the Berks Ham Fest on September 12th. Ten members were present and some husbands also attend ed the picnic held that night. Six members were present at Naomi Mast’s home for the August safety meeting. A video, “Contractor Beware,” about elec tricity safety was viewed. Each member received a small first aid kit. The September meeting will be at the home of Marion Gehris. York Society 26 York County Farm Women Group 26 held its July meeting at Yocumtown Church of God with 13 members attending. Hostesses were Doris Beshore and Ruth Willis. Donations were made to “The Cornerstone” and York County 4-H. Entertainment was a film on “Christmas Across America.” Group 26 entertained Group 13 at the Community Lewisberry pavilion on August 4.
