To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their association’s founding. Highland cattle breeders from throughout the United States will gather here Oct. 1-4 for their 1998 National Convention. Highland cattle originated in Scotland perhaps as early as the sixth century. Their genetics have remained basically unchanged through the year. Qualities that have all but disappeared in other breeds are what make highlands so unique today. They are es pecially noted for their hardiness, disease resistance, calving ease, mothering instincts, docile nature, browsing ability, thriftiness and longeity, with many cows calving into their late teens.
