To Leadership Conference
PLYMOUTH, Mass.—Cenex/
CRI sponsored two couples to at
tend the 23rd Annual Leadership
Conference held July 22-24 at the
Sheraton Inn in Plymouth, Massa
chusetts.
Cenex sponsored two Young
Cooperator couples. Matt and
Annette Hyman from Strykers
ville, N.Y.; and Mike and Judy
Ooms from Valatie, N.Y.
Over 70 people attended the
educational three-day conference
at the Sheraton Inn. Attendees
from various farm backgrounds
such as dairy, farm credit, grape
growers, DHIA, cranberries, and
vegetable growers attended the
conference.
One of the topics the YCs
learned about was “Building
Bridges to Others,” by Dr. Ken
neth Markley. In addition, Bruce
Anderson from Cornell Univer
sity, spoke on “Cooperative Fin
ance: The Big Picture” and “Alter
native Cooperative Strategies.”
Don Rogers, Farm Business
Consultant presented “Manage
ment Succession the Key to Keep
ing the Farm in the Family.”
“I could listen to Don Rogers
talk more. The conference pre
sented excellent points and had
great information to take home
and use on the farm,” said Cenex
YC Matt Hyman.
A tour of Gary Garretson’s
Cranberry Farm and bogs proved
interesting and educational as the
YCs listened to Garretson disuss
the challenges facing cranberry
growers and the strength of co
operatives.
Garretson said, “Alone wc
grow cranberries, we put them to
gether to form Ocean Spray, and
