HAPPENINGS
On June 23, 20 4-H’ers and
three adults traveled to Columbus,
Mont on an exchange trip.
Education, friendship, cultural
exchange, and sightseeing were
just some of the events of the re
cent exchange between the Still
water County 4-H and the Penn
sylvania Carbon County 4-H pro
gram. The exchange lasted until
June 30.
Montana’s Stillwater County is
located in the southern part of
Montana, about 40 miles west of
Billings. The Pennsylvania
4-H’ers enjoyed many sights and
activities not experienced before.
They were involved in branding
calves, driving cattle, and making
drives to round up yearlings. They
visited sights such as parts of the
Rocky Mountains. They also
toured Yellowstone Park, enjoyed
a swim in a thermally heated pool
at Chico Hot Springs, and at
tended a western rodeo in Big
Timber.
Many of the teens enjoyed a

tour of the capitol, took a boat ride
through the Gates of the Moun
tains along the Missouri River,
toured Virginia City, and went
horseback riding. A farewell
barbecue was held for the host
families and Pennsylvania guests
on Monday evening before their
June 30 departure.
Eighteen Stillwater 4-H’ers and
six adults are scheduled to travel
to Pennsylvania next June 1999.
Some eastern sights to be enjoyed
by the Stillwater 4-H’ers will be
Lancaster, Hershey, historic Jim
Thorpe, and a trip to New York to
see the Statue of Liberty. Free
days for the individual families
could include a trip to the Jersey
shores, so the Montana 4-H’ers
can see the ocean for the fust time.
Sadly, one of dip Pennsylvania
4-H’ers was involved in a fatal
auto accident two days after their
return. Leaders Monroe and Nan
Cressley along with the other
leader Brenda Green and the 19
teens grieve this tremedous loss.
