Pennsylvania Dairy Princess and Promotion Services Inc. recently welcomed the 1998-99 “class” of county dairy princess es and alternates to its annual training seminar at Lycoming College, Williamsport. Twenty nine Pennsylvania princesses, 25 alternates, and more than 30 adult committee persons and mothers were joined by two princesses from Maryland for an intensive 3-1/2 days of training for their new role as dairy pro moters Workshops and lectures cov ering all aspects of the dairy industry, nutrition, media rela tions, public speaking, promo tion techniques, and personal appearance and social conduct Homestead Notes were led by 22 speakers. They were assisted by Pennsylvania’s reigning State Princess, Nichole Meabon, Alternates Heather Riley and Rileen Murphy, and the P.D.P.P.S. coordinators and program directors. Starting with the keynote address, “Opportunities - Unimagined, Untouched and Unlimited,” by Jennifer Grimes, 1993-94 Pennsylvania Dairy Princess. The young women were encouraged to develop and use their knowledge, personali ties, and individual abilities to represent and promote the dairy industry and its products. All of the young women in attendance assisted by their local dairy promotion commit tees and their families will spend the coming year repre senting the dairy industry and promoting the use of its prod ucts. It will be a busy but rewarding year for all as they do their part to contribute to the well being df the dairy industry and the health of its customers. In September, the county princesses will compete for the title of Pennsylvania Dairy Princess or Alternate. The State Pageant will be held at the Sheraton Inn, Harrisburg, on Saturday evening, September 19. All interested person are urged to attend and support their local candidate. The Pennsylvania Dairy Princess Program, now in its 42nd year, is supported by Pennsylvania dairy farmers though American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, Middle Atlantic American Dairy Association, American Dairy Association and Dairy Council- Mideast/Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program and Allied Milk Producers in addition to contributions from independent dairies, cooperatives, and indi viduals.
