A36-L«ncaster Farming, Saturday, August 1, 1998 Swine Show Exhibitors Recognize Brothers’ Help In Picking Champions ANDY ANDREWS Lancaster Farming Staff NORTH CORNWALL (Leba non Co.) What’s a little help from some friends? Or, how about a little help from some ... brothers? Megan Fuls, who walked away with the supreme ribbon, and Bil lie Jo Atkins, with reserve, admit ted they needed help in selecting a pig that could win the Lebanon Area Fair Swine Show championship. They called upon their brothers, veterans of the show ring. Megan’s brother Justin, who did well at the show, helped select the pig when the family purchased it privately from Donny Sheis, Indiana. And the reserve shown by Billie Jo relied on the guidance of her brother Dan. Jason Shirk showed tl Trisha Berger with her Landrace champion at Lebanon Monday. .. -p. . .../ l dCe ' - ■■ol. jners, from left, Rebecca Wen ger,Emily Ziegler, Kirk Artz, Brandon Wlnebark, Gretchen Artz, Janlne Winebark, Nat hanlal Artz, and Renee Atkins. It also won out over competition from purebreeds at the fair. Megan said this is her first Leba non Area Fair champion. She is in 7th grade at Conrad Weiser. According to her father, Kevin, “her brother got her interested in showing hogs,” he said. Fortunate ly for the exhibitor, even though she had last pick of the hogs, she chose the right one during the sale. Megan said she will be showing hogs at the state farm show. Reserve champion was a 267-pound Blue Butt crossbred gilt, heavyweight reserve champ ion, at the fair. It was shown by Billie Jo Atkins, 14, daughter of le Yorkshire champion at Lebanon.
