    Gorges Shows Wednesday’s Kimberton Market Lamb Champ

KIMBERTON (Chester Co.)
Twelve exhibitors placed 73 sheep
before judge Daryl Grumbine,
Myerstown, Wednesday evening
during the Kimberton Fair here at
the fairgrounds.
In the competition’s first market
lamb championship round, the
Wednesday champions included
Oxford champion and reserve ewe at Kimberton Fair
Wednesday went to Jacob Garges, left. Holding champion

Jacob Garges, Telford, who won
grand champion. Reserve was
shown by Joan Harris,
Wallingford.
Additional market lambs are
scheduled to be shown today at the
fair.
The judge complimented
Garges for showing a “real firm
handling lamb (that) should hang
up an excellent carcass,” said
Grumbine. Grumbine noted that
the reserve, second place in the
light heavyweight class, was
“structurally firm with a lot of
width and dimension.”
Jacob, 16, son of Paul and
Eileen Garges, Telford, showed
the light heavyweight champion, a
100-pound crossbred wether. He
also swept the Oxford breed divi
sion, winning champion and
reserve ram and ewe.
Jacob is a junior at Christopher
Dock Mennonite High School. He
has shown champions in previous
years at Kimberton. Jacob plans to
show at the Montgomery County
4-H Roundup and the Allentown
Fair.
Joan Harris, with reserve,
showed a 105-pound Suffolk ewe.
Joan, 18, daughter of Richard
Harris, noted this was the first time
she has shown a market champion
at Kimberton, though she has won
breed champions in the past at the
fair. She plans to show at the
Goshen Fair.
The sheep breed show was held
Wednesday evening and was sche
duled to continue today. At Wed
nesday’s competition. Southdown
ram champion and reserve were
shown by Joan Harris.
Southdown ewe champion and
reserve also were shown by Harris.
Suffolk ram champions were
Kelly Pike, champion and reserve
was shown by Walter Ernst. Suf
folk ewe champions were both
shown by Kelly Pike.
Oxford champion ram went to
Jacob Garges, who also showed
champion and reserve Oxford
ewes.
Showmanship champions at
Kimberton Fair Wednesday were
Amber Shollenberger, 8-11 years
old; Jacob Garges, IS years and
over, and Justin Shollenberger,
12-14 years old.
