Seventeen-year-old Tamella Menke achieved a life-long dream when she was named Mercer County Dairy Princess at the pag eant, which was held in the Leslie N. Firth Learning Center, Mercer, June 30. Tamella is the daughter of Ted and Rosemary Menke of Green ville and will be a senior at Rey nold Junior/Senior High School this fall. She is active in 4-H and is a member of the Country Milkers dairy club and the veterinary sci ence club and is president of County Council. She is in Nation al Honor Society, Key Club, Con cert Choir, and German and Latin clubs, track and field and the Rey nolds Varsity “R” Club. She also belongs to the Jersey and Holstein breed associations. Tammy plans to attend Penn State University and major in dairy and animal science after high school. Tammy’s skit “Dairy Day at Farmer Bill Academy" depicted a farmer visiting an elementary school class and introducing the students to a calf and milk. Terra is the 18-year-old daugh ter of Frank and Rosalie Ferris, New Wilmington. She is a 1998 graduate of Wilmington Area High school where she was active in FFA, Key Club, and chorus. She served as a track statistician and assisted with the Kiwanis book sale and pancake breakfast. Terra plans to work on her family farm and work with 4-H and FFA members. Terra dressed up as a football player and told third graders how milk could help them grow up big and strong in her skit, “Three Times a Ghana.” The 23-year-old daughter .of Gerald and Susan Voorhies. Stoneboro, Elizabeth will be a senior at Edinboro University this fall where she is majoring in ele mentary and early childhood edu cation. She is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national co-ed ser vice fraternity and was a nine-year member of No-Bull 4-H dairy, club. Elizabeth is employed at the London, Pa. McDonald’s and Eat’n’Park this summer. Elizabeth presented a speech cm lactose intolerance called “Got Milk” and a skit “Where Does Milk Come From?" Katie. IS, and Melissa Hanna, 13, are the daughters of Clayton and Cindy Hanna, Stoneboro. Ka tie presented “Friends” in which she talked about how her imagin ary friend helped her discover the benefits of eating dairy. Melissa cheered for dairy foods in “Melis sa the Moo.” Kimberly Voorhies is 16 and performed a skit called “Little Miss Muffet Learns About Dairy.” In it the spider teaches her that milk, cheese, and ice cream are really good for her. Thirteen-year-old Emily Davis is the daughter of Chuck and Cin dy Davis of Mercer. Emily ex citedly told the audience what she learned about dairy products at school in her skit “A Day at School.” The Daily Delights ages 5 to 10 years, will help the royalty pro mote milk as well.
