Chester Holstein Club Sets Field Day HONEY BROOK (Chester Co.) The Chester County Hol stein Chib’s annual Field Day will be held on Friday, July 31 begin ning at 10 a.m. at Honey-Brite Holsteins, the farm of Amos E. Stoltzfus and family. Honey Brook. A judging competition will begin the activities with awards to be given in men’s women’s and youth categories. Official judge will be Ron Buffington of Conklin Co., Inc. Visitors to the Honey- Brite herd will see five excellent cows: daughters of Leader, Lead man, Blacks tar, Symbol, and Con verse. The herd’s BAA currently stands at 106. S percent Afternoon speaker will be dairy nutritionist and Holstein breeder from Berks County, Tim Kissling. A beef barbecue lunch will be provided. The Pennsylvania Aysrhirc Breeders Association has announed that its annual field day has been scheduled to be held start ing 9 a.m., July 25 at the Rushing Springs Farm in Bedford. Rushing Springs Farm is owned by Curt Sweinhart and family and some of the special attractions of their farm include a sand-bedded frees tall bam with drive-through feeding system, and an under construction manure storage facility. To get to the farm from Route 36, take the Loysburg Exit, turn south at £Z Shopper convenience store, travel three miles and take first right turn. Travel until reach ing a ’’Stop” sign. Continue past sign onto Texas Comer Road and farm is one mile farther. For those traveling along Route 30, west from Everett, take first right after Everett and head toward Loysburg. Follow road over Snake Spring Mountain, and take first left at bottom of the mountain. Take first left onto Texas Comer Road and travel one mile to the farm. Also, to be presented in conjunction with the state meet ing, are the presentation of dairy awards, an update and report on national ABA activities, an update on the Raise to Graze Sale, and results of the calf-matching contest. While the meeting is ongoing, a waterslide and volleyball game activities are to continue. At 2:15 p.m., a tour of the farm's waste management system is to be given. 4 p.m. is milking time. There are nearby sightseeing attractions in historic Bedford, registered as a National Historict District. The town contains almost 200 pre-1900 buildings. Old Bedford Village is located along Route 220, and is a collec tion of more than 40 Bedord Coun ty log cabins, in which various cos tumed crafts people demonstrate a variety of 18th century crafts, including blacksmithing, pottery and baseket making, weaving, and tinsmithing. A self-guided tour of the village takes about 2.5 hours. There are usually summer feature events in addition to the regular demonstrations.
